내 삶을 깨뜨립니다 (I break my life)

(마가복음 13:37-14:9 (Mark 13:37-14:9))

오늘 이야기는 예수님이 베다니에 사는 나병 환자 시몬의 집에서 식사하실 때 일어난 일을 담고 있다. 이 이야기가 나오기 전, 유대인 당국자들은 ‘어떻게 예수를 죽일까’ 계략을 꾸몄고, 민란이 일어날 수 있는 유월절과 무교절을 피해서 그 계략을 시행할 것을 결의한다.

Today's story tells us what happened when Jesus ate at the house of Simon the leper who lived in Bethany. Before this story is told, the Jewish authorities was making a plot of "how to kill Jesus," and decided to enforce the plan by avoiding the Passover and Unleavened Bread in which a riot of the people could take place.

 

 

나병 환자 시몬의 집에서 식사하실 때, 한 여인은 값비싼 nard(나드)를 가져와 예수님의 머리 위에 부었다. 그 행위를 보고, 어떠한 사람들은 그 여인을 꾸짖었다. 그것을 팔면 3백 데나리온 정도의 값을 받을 수 있을 것이고, 그것을 가지고 가난한 자들을 도와주면 좋을텐데, 그것을 예수님의 머리 위에 부어 낭비하고 있다는 것이다.

When Jesus ate at Simon the leper's house, a lady brought an expensive nard and poured it on Jesus' head. Seeing the act, some people rebuked the woman. If she sells it, she will be able to get a price of about three hundred denarii, and it would be nice to help the poor with it, but she is wasting it on Jesus' head.

 

이 사람들의 비난대로 그 여인은 정말 잘못된 일을 한 것일까? 그리고 그 여인은 왜 그런 일을 한 것일까? 우리는 예수님의 말씀을 통해서, 그 여인이 한 일이 무엇을 의미하는지 알 수 있다. 예수님은 사람들의 평가와는 달리 그 여인의 행동이 잘못된 것이 아니라고 말한다. “그가 내게 좋은 일을 하였느니라”(6절). 그 여인이 한 일은 왜 좋은 일일까? 예수님은 그 여인의 행위를 이렇게 규정한다. “그는 힘을 다하여 내 몸에 향유를 부어 내 장례를 미리 준비하였느니라”(8절).

Did the woman really do the wrong thing as these people accused her? And why did she do that? Through Jesus' words, we can see what the woman is doing. Jesus says that unlike people's evaluation, the woman's behavior is not wrong. "She has done good deed to Me" (v.6). Why is she doing so good? Jesus defines the act of the woman as follows. "She has done what she could; she has anointed MY body beforehand for the burial" (v. 8).

 

이것은 그 여인이 한 일에 대한 예수님의 해석이다. 그러나 우리는 여기서 한 가지 질문을 할 수 있다. 그 여인은 정말로 예수님의 장례를 준비한 것일까? 다른 말로 하자면, 그 여인은 예수님이 죽을 것을 미리 알고 이렇게 향유를 부은 것일까? 아니다. 그 여인이 예수님의 죽음을 알았을 리 없다. 왜냐하면, 마가복음에는 계속해서 제자들의 무지를 지적하고 있는데, 예수님이 자기의 죽음을 예고할 때마다 제자들은 그것이 무엇을 뜻하는지 전혀 알지 못했다.

This is Jesus' interpretation of what the woman did. But we can ask one question here. Did she really prepare for Jesus' burial? In other words, did the woman know that Jesus would die and poured perfume? No. The woman should not have known Jesus' death. For Mark continues to point out the ignorance of the disciples, and when Jesus preached his death, the disciples did not know what it meant.

 

그렇다면, 그 여인의 행동은 무엇일까? 왜 그 여인은 그러한 행동을 했을까? 그 여인은 분명 예수님을 통해서 ‘구원의 기쁨’을 맛 본 여인이었을 것이다. 그래서 그 여인은 예수님께 나아와 그가 드릴 수 있는 것 중 가장 귀한 것을 드려서 감사의 표현을 한 것이다. 우리는 이러한 행위를 일컬어, 예배라 부른다. 예배는 감사의 표현이고, 기쁨의 표현이고, 사랑의 표현이다. 예배는 최고의 감사이고, 최고의 기쁨이고, 최고의 사랑이다.

If so, what is the act of the woman? Why did she act like that? The woman must have been a woman who enjoyed the joy of salvation through Jesus. So the woman came to Jesus and gave thanks to the most valuable thing she could offer. We call this practice a worship. Worship is an expression of gratitude, an expression of joy, and an expression of love. Worship is the ultimate gratitude, the ultimate joy, and the ultimate love.

 

레위기에 보면 제사의 규정이 자세히 나와 있는데, 하나님께 드리는 최고의 예배는 기름을 태워서 드리는 향기로운 제사이다. 요즘은 건강을 생각해서 고기를 먹을 때 되도록이면 고기의 지방 부분을 다 때어내고 먹지만, 옛날에는 고기의 지방 부분이 엄청 중요했다. 고기의 지방을 섭취하지 않으면 지방을 섭취할 방법이 별로 없었기 때문이다. 그리고, 실제로 고기를 먹을 때 지방이 좀 베어있는 (마블링이라고 한다) 고기가 맛있다. 그래서 한국에서는 마블링이 잘 되어 있는 고기를 최상급으로 친다.

In Leviticus, the regulations of the sacrifice are detailed, and the best service to God is a fragrant offering of oil. Nowadays, when we eat meat because we think about health, we take out the fat part of the meat, but in the old days, the fat part of the meat was very important. If they did not eat fat from the meat, there was no way to consume fat. And, when we actually eat meat, meat with a little fat (called marbling) is delicious. So, in Korea, marbled meat is best served.

 

우리는 열왕기상 3장에 나오는 솔로몬의 제사를 기억한다. 솔로몬은 아버지 다윗 왕에 뒤를 이어 이스라엘의 왕이 되고 난 뒤, 기브온 산당에 가서 하나님께 예배를 드린다. 그는 그곳에서 예배를 드리며, 일천 번제를 하나님께 드린다. 천 마리의 소를 한꺼번에 태워서 드리는 제사는 아무나 드릴 수 있는 것이 아니고, 아무 때나 드리는 것이 아니다. ‘일천’이라는 숫자가 가지고 있는 의미를 생각할 때, 솔로몬이 드린 일천 번제는 솔로몬이 하나님께 표현할 수 있는 최고의 감사와 기쁨과 사랑이다.

We remember the offering of Solomon in 1 Kings 3. After Solomon became king of Israel after his father David, he went to the high place of Gibeon and worshiped God. Worshipping there and he give a thousand burnt offerings to God. A sacrifice to bring a thousand cows together is not something that anyone can give, nor is it offered at any time. Considering the meaning of the number "one thousand," one thousand burnt offerings by Solomon are the greatest gratitude, joy, and love that Solomon can express to God.

 

사도 바울은 로마서에서 예수 그리스도의 복음을 전한 뒤, 12장에 가서 이렇게 말한다. “그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라 이는 너희가 드릴 영적 예배니라”(롬 12:1). 로마서는 온통 예수가 누구인지, 예수가 왜 그리스도인지, 그리고 그것이 무엇을 의미하는지를 논증한다. 그리고 나서, 자신이 논증한 예수 그리스도는 우리의 예배를 받으실 만한 분이라는 것을 강조하는 것이다.

The apostle Paul goes to chapter 12 after he preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ in Romans. "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your [b]spiritual service of worship." (Romans 12: 1). In Romans, Paul argues all over who is Jesus, why Jesus is the Christ, and what it means. Then, he emphasizes that Jesus Christ, whom he has argued, is worthy of our worship.

 

한 여인은 살면서 힘들고 어려운 일을 많이 겪었다. 그러나, 그 여인은 어느 날 예수님을 만났고, 그가 바로 메시아(그리스도)라는 것을 깨달았다. 그 여인은 ‘예수 그리스도’를 통하여 새로운 삶을 살게 되었고, 그래서 그 여인은 자신이 가지 최고의 것을 가지고 예수님을 예배했다. 물론 그 여인은 자기 자신이 한 행동인 예수님의 장례를 준비한 것이라는 것을 알지 못했다. 그러나, 하나님께서는 우리가 알지 못하는 방식으로 우리의 헌신을 통해서 위대한 일을 이루시는 분이다. 다만 우리는 하나님의 뜻을 다 알지는 못하지만, 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 최선을 다할 뿐이다.

A woman has suffered a lot of hardships while living. However, the woman met Jesus one day and realized that he was the Messiah (Christ). The woman was able to start a new life through Jesus Christ, and she worshiped Jesus with the best of things. Of course, she did not know that she was preparing for the burial of Jesus, but she eventually did with God’s grace. God is doing great things through our devotion in ways we do not know. We do not know all the will of God, but we do our best to love God.

 

“내 삶을 깨뜨립니다”라는 고백은 한 여인이 값비싼 나드를 깨뜨려 예수님의 머리에 부은 것처럼, 우리의 삶을 예수님께 드리겠다는 신앙고백이다. 이것은 우리의 삶을 드려 예수님을 예배하겠다는 최고의 감사이고, 최고의 기쁨이고, 최고의 사랑이다. 본문에서 본 것처럼, 예수님이 누구인지 모르는 사람들은 예수님을 죽일 방도를 하고 있지만, 예수님이 누구인지 아는 사람들은 최고의 것을 드려 예수님을 예배한다.

A confession that "I break my life" is that of faith that will give our lives to Jesus just as a woman broke and poured over the expensive nard to the head of Jesus. This is the ultimate gratitude to give our lives to worship Jesus, the ultimate joy, and the ultimate love. As seen in the text, those who do not know who Jesus is are trying to kill Jesus, but those who know who Jesus is worship Jesus by offering the best.

 

오늘 우리는 함께 모여서 예수님을 예배한다. 왜냐하면, 우리는 예수님이 누구인지 아는 사람들이기 때문이다. 예수님은 우리를 구원하신 메시아(그리스도)이시다. 그래서 우리는 지금 한 여인이 가장 값진 것을 깨뜨려 예수님을 예배한 것처럼, 우리의 삶을 깨뜨려 예수님을 예배한다.

Today, we gather together to worship Jesus, because we are the people who know who Jesus is. Jesus is the Messiah (Christ) who saved us. So we break our lives and worship Jesus Christ just as the woman worships Jesus Christ with the most valuable thing in the Bible.

 

오늘의 예배가 하나님의 영광을 위하여 어떻게 쓰여질지 우리는 알지 못한다. 그러나, 우리가 최고의 감사, 최고의 기쁨, 최고의 사랑을 담아 예배를 드린다면, 하나님께서는 우리의 예배를 받으시고 신비한 방식으로 우리의 예배를 당신의 영광을 위하여 사용하실 것이다. 그러므로, 우리 모두 예배 드리는 이 순간을 기뻐하고 즐거워 하자. 주님이 우리를 통해 역사하신다!

We do not know how today's worship will be used for the glory of God. However, if we worship with the highest appreciation, the highest joy, and the highest love, God will receive our worship and will use our worship for His glory in a mysterious way. Therefore, let us rejoice and enjoy this moment of worship. The Lord works through us!
